Sculpture of a Nyertun tribal woman dancing, it stands 45" tall and then is 6" X 4". This item is carved out of Arbutus that is a protected tree here on the west coast. The only time you can get a piece of this wood to carve is when a tree either dies naturally and is removed by an arborist by permit, is uprooted by a storm, or cleared for housing projects.

Nyertun tribal women do a dance to allure and tantalize the male she will choose for a sex partner of that night. The women would dance nude except for bead-work around their necks, waists and ankles, they would approach the male that they were interested in dance seductively on front of them also rubbing their bodies up and down the male to get them sexually aroused. The male did not have to accept the female, he could turn her proposal down. That night they can do anything they want with the partner and when the daybreak comes they both go on with their normal day. They have the choice to either stay together or go their separate way. This provocative dance was performed once a year.
