Tye was hand carved out of yellow cedar that was found on Wreck Beach in Vancouver, BC. The mask in the carving is Black Locus from a tree that was knocked down in a train derailment in West Vancouver. It has a traditional finish on it of hand rubbed linseed oil/bees wax and turpentine. It takes over a year to get the finish completed on it by continuous rubbing of the surface by hand. After the finish is completed unless damaged will last a lifetime, only the occasional rubbing with a lint-free cloth with suffice.
